LEWISBURG, WV (WOAY)- “It’s been a great week here in Lewisburg at the 99th annual State Fair of West Virginia. We’ve had several thousand people come through the gates,” said Kelly Collins, CEO of the State Fair of West Virginia.
The state fair brought amusement, live music, shows, competition, and so much more to Lewisburg. The fun doesn’t end there, there’ll be quite a showcase to wrap it up.
“So we have one of the best fireworks shows in the state here at the state fair, West Virginia. They do start at 10:30 on Saturday night. It lasts somewhere between 12 to 15 minutes,” said Collins. “So if you’re looking for a great way to kick off their end, the State Fair of West Virginia. And before you go back to school, it’s a wonderful fireworks show.”
Though the state fair loves to bring on the fun, it prides itself on giving back to the community first and foremost.
“We’re actually a 5o13c nonprofit. We’ve given out over a half million dollars in scholarships since we started giving out our scholarships,” explained Collins. “We give out over $60,000 to nonprofits, and there’s a lot of work that goes into this. You know we can’t do it without the 200 employees that work for us during fair week. That doesn’t include folks that are working for the vendors or the carnival that come in as well. So if you look at the economic impact of the state fair, West Virginia, it’s huge for our state.”
They are excited to continue giving back and have a lot in store as they hit their 100th year next year.
“We’re celebrating our 99th fair this year, so we are on the countdown to 100. We’ve already got some big plans in the works, and we can’t wait to show everyone what we have in store,”said Collins.
