WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): The rain that has been falling for most of the week has finally left our region. The morning commute will stay dry, but fog is developing across the region. Take things a bit slower and use your low beams if you run into fog on your trip. Skies will remain mostly sunny through the day, resulting in fog dissipating a bit earlier in the day. The fog is our main concern for this morning, but temperatures will also be brisk. A few areas will dip into the upper 30s, which could result in frost. The National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory for Pocahontas County until 9 AM this morning due to the cold temperatures.
A high-pressure system remains to our north, which is influencing our weather. As a result, drier and cooler conditions persist into the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will rise into the mid-60s, making things more comfortable. Outdoor plans will be able to commence without issue no matter what time they begin. If you are headed to one of the many high school football games tonight, you should bring a jacket or blanket for the second half. The nicer conditions will persist for some time, which is great news after nearly a week of rain and storms. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest:
The weekend will be very similar to today’s forecast. Skies remain mostly sunny with very few clouds while temperatures very slowly increase. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will increase by a degree or so each, which will not be very noticeable. Low temperatures will remain in the 40s, making your warmer jackets a needed accessory for early morning or late night activities. It will be a great time to enjoy the outdoors, throw outdoor watch parties for football, or do basically any other fall activities.
New England and the Mid-Atlantic will be impacted by a Nor’easter through the weekend, but that system will not reach far enough inland to bring us anything. We can at least partially thank the high-pressure system to our north, as it will help to keep activity coastal. If you have family and friends closer to the coast, it is worth checking in as the storm impacts the coast. Flooding, beach erosion, strong winds, and rough seas will be the main impacts for our friends to the east. Again, this system will not impact our area.
As we head into the work week, skies remain mostly sunny. However, temperatures will increase notably on Tuesday and beyond. Monday stays in the upper 60s, but warmer air moving into the region will result in afternoon highs reaching the mid-70s on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday will be even warmer, bringing us back to the above-average values we saw earlier in the month. Conditions through Wednesday will be absolutely gorgeous, especially for those wanting a little bit more of summer.
However, a cold front will begin to approach the region later this week. Some models have indicated that it will arrive on Thursday, while others are not as consistent with timing. Regardless, we are expecting rain to return by Thursday of next week. Temperatures remain higher on Thursday, but I am expecting another dip as we head into the first full week of October.
