The 17th annual Best of West Virginia Art Exhibit has opened at the Tamarack

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY)- The Tamarack is known to bring the best of the best from the Mountain State all in one spot. Well, that rings true as the 17th annual Best of West Virginia art exhibition opened today at the Tamarack.

This exhibition is an open jury exhibition that celebrates the best art that West Virginian artists have to offer. The 110 pieces selected feature 68 artists from 25 different counties around the state. A jury of people from out of state selected these pieces out of the 200 pieces submitted for this showcase.

Since there is no real theme for this exhibition, the question is, how do they curate it for the audience?

“So that’s actually the fun part. As soon as things are selected and the accepted pieces are known, we start designing the exhibition virtually,” explained Gretchen Carr, the gallery manager at Tamarack. “So what we normally do is we try to group things about dominant colors just so that it’s pleasing to the eye, more approachable. And oftentimes, we sell pieces in bulk because people are trying to showcase a gallery wall in their own home. So if they’re all placed together and they’re cohesive on the wall, then it’s cohesive at home.”

If there’s any piece you wish to have in your own home, they are all available for purchase at the Tamarack. If you are or are not looking for new decor, you can still participate in this showcase. You can scan the QR code and vote for your favorite piece in the People’s Choice Award.

The exhibition will run from May 30th to July 18th, if you wish to visit. They hope you come to visit.
