Tazewell County Virginia Deputies warn residents about EBT scam

Tazewell County, VA (WOAY) – A Southwest Virginia law enforcement agency wants to warn Virginia residents about a potential scam.

According to a post on the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, scammers are attempting to trick people into sharing EBT PIN numbers and other sensitive personal information. The USDA and the Virginia Department of Social Services are working together to identify fraudulent activity and keep the public informed.

The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office recommends that EBT card users regularly change your PIN and choosie to use only the official ConnectEBT app (free from Apple and Google app stores). Remember to check your balance daily, either through the ConnectEBT app or online portal, and keep an eye out for unusual activity.

The ConnectEBT app also offers a card lock feature, allowing users to secure their EBT cards after each purchase. Instantly lock and unlock your card to protect your benefits until your next checkout. Find this feature in the ConnectEBT app today!

For more information contact the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office at (276) 988-5966.
