Strong winds knock out power to thousands in our area

UPDATE (9:10 AM, April 13, 2020) – Appalachian Power is reporting more than 4,000 customers in Fayette County are without power; the majority of cases are around Oak Hill and Fayetteville. More than 2,000 customers in Raleigh County are without power, mostly in Eccles and Prosperity. Appalachian Power is also reporting more than 1,000 outages each in McDowell, Nicholas, and Tazewell counties.

MonPower currently reports 103 customers in Monroe County are without power, while Greenbrier and Summers County each have less than 100 outages.

(WOAY) – Thousands are without power across our area due to strong winds.

Appalachian power is reporting over 3,000 customers are in the dark in Raleigh County. In Fayette County there are just under 1,000. In McDowell County there are over 1,500 without power.

The bulk of the outages in Raleigh County are in the communities of Bradley, Eccles, Harper Heights, west side of Beckley, and Maple Fork.

As of 11:45 pm, there is no word on when power will be restored.
