The weather is very nice and warm this afternoon around the region, but the air is humid, making it feel almost like summer outside.

Big changes are on the way, starting later tonight. A line of strong storms will come into the region from the northwest and the result is that some of the storms could have strong winds attached. Below are the active watches and warnings as of 3 p.m. this afternoon.

Large hail and even an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, but the threats for these things are much smaller. Also possible is some localized flooding where the storms occur – there is plenty of moisture for them to work with. Ponding of water on the roads, gathering water in low-lying spots, are the usual concerns when we have heavy rain in a short amount of time. The good news is that as we lose the heating of the day, the storms will be weaker than they currently are over Ohio.

The chance for storms lasts into tomorrow, before tapering off a bit. Later this week another low pressure center will push to the northwest on a similar track to today’s storm. Another chance for strong storms will be in the forecast, although once again the best chance for severe weather is just to our northwest. Regardless of whether there is severe weather or not, this series of storms will give us a good amount of rain.

The good news is that it will be spread out enough to keep flooding concerns down, especially when you combine that with the fact that we have been pretty dry recently. Parts of southern, southeastern, and eastern West Virginia are in abnormally dry, or moderate to extreme drought conditions.
The wet weather lasts into the weekend before it finally dries out for the rest of the extended forecast period. For the video forecast, be sure to copy and paste the link below into your browser.
