Stormy midweek weather, hot and dry later

It is a mild day today around southern West Virginia, with temperatures close to where they should be. Some areas are seeing sun and that is driving readings into the middle to upper 80s.

There is, once again, a humid feel to the air as dewpoints are again in the 60s and 70s.

As long as we’re to the south of a stationary front located over the Upper Ohio Valley and stuck in this warm, moist air mass any storms that form could be on the strong side and that is the case today and through the early overnight period.

Some of the storms that form, could contain damaging winds. It’s really the only threat with any storms that do become severe tonight.

There will be several rounds of strong to severe storms, and the threat for severe storms is even greater tomorrow than it is today.

The severe threat lasts into Thursday before ending as the stationary front finally breaks down.

The rainfall totals will be heavy and spread out, leading to potential flooding issues. Totals here are uniformly moderate but will be higher for areas that find themselves underneath the storms.

It’s the reason that all areas are under Flood Watches tonight, and these could be extended for another day or two before we dry out.

The good news for those who are tired of the rain is that once we start to see drier weather it will stay dry for several days. If there is a downside, it is that it will get very warm. The last three days in the extended forecast will see highs in the 90s as the hottest stretch of weather that we’ve seen so far this year takes hold.
