Overall, a pretty nice day across Southern West Virginia. We will have a couple more dry days including Labor Day before we start to welcome back the rain chance on Thursday. Monday-Wednesday will be mostly dry, but we cannot rule out the stray light shower. Although, speaking of Thursday, the WPC has put out a Marginal Risk of Excessive Rainfall that could lead to flash flooding across our western areas.

Here is a glimpse at what the European model shows for the evening hours on Thursday. The east to west oriented line should find itself impinging into our area as we head through the evening and overnight hours of Thursday into Friday morning. Most people should start to clear out around noon on Friday and the rain should exit our southern counties in the early afternoon leading to great weather for the football games Friday night.

The European model and the GFS model do NOT agree on rainfall totals, but they agree on the timeframe of this rain. European model wants quite a bit of people near three quarters of an inch to an inch of rain, while the GFS model keeps most people near a quarter to half-inch of rain. They both agree that the majority of this rain will fall on Thursday into early Friday morning. Some lightning and thunder will be possible with this activity, but severe weather threat appears low at this time due to questions regarding instability. We will continue to track this over the coming days.

Taking a look at that full 7 day forecast and temperatures look pretty nice, topping out in the mid to upper 80’s in some places on Wednesday, before the rain potential comes Thursday and the chance for rain lasts through next weekend. Saturday’s rain chance has increased slightly since yesterday and could also continue to increase over the coming days, we will continue to track that system as well!
