WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Rainy conditions continue on, helping us with the drought status we sustained over the last few weeks. While nothing severe will reach the region, we could see a few stronger storms with gusty winds and heavier rain. Rainfall totals will be around a quarter to a half of an inch today with more coming overnight into Thursday morning, which will elevate our flooding risk a bit. Vulnerable areas and those impacted with long-standing or repeated downpours will be most at risk. Flash Flood Guidance shows that most of the area will need an inch and a half of rain or more within an hour to start flash flooding. Meteorologist Christian Boteler dives into the details of this active pattern:
The front that is bringing us this rain will be moving very slowly tonight, potentially stalling over the region overnight into Thursday morning before the low-pressure system starts to move away from the Great Lakes later in the day. This will result in long-lasting rainfall and storms, bumping up our flood risk a bit as we enter the second half of the work week. The front will finally push through Thursday evening, leaving behind some lingering showers.

Today and tomorrow will be the wettest days in the extended forecast, but it won’t immediately dry up across the region. Chances on Friday will fizzle out, though rainfall may still affect high school sports to end off the week. Saturday will see a bump in chances again thanks to prevailing moisture to our south before chances slowly wane, finally fizzling out early Tuesday. Here’s a look at the 7-Day Forecast:
