Showers Today; More Rain This Week

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): This morning starts on the brisk side, but is warmer than yesterday. Showers start to pop in later this morning and last through the afternoon. A few cracks of thunder are possible as well, but thunderstorms will stay on the weaker side today. Rainfall will be light as well, so an umbrella or rain jacket will be plenty enough to keep you dry. Temperatures will rise to around 70 degrees this afternoon, so you’ll want to have the ability to shed layers this afternoon. Showers and storms will dissipate this evening, leaving us calm overnight and into Tuesday morning. However, this is not the end of the active weather this week. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:

The next chance of rain starts late Tuesday night as a cold front approaches the region. Showers will be scattered until Wednesday morning, becoming widespread and accompanied by thunderstorms through the day. Rainfall totals will be between a half of an inch and an inch, bringing us a little relief to the drought conditions we have been dealing with since March. Even then, this will not be enough to knock the drought down in a significant capacity. For those wondering about the thunderstorms, the timing of this front will favor weaker storms through the day. Severe weather will stay well to our south, but you should stay weather aware and head inside if you hear thunder.

These showers and storms will hang on overnight, continuing to drop rain across the region. The cold front will pass over the region Wednesday night, dropping temperatures  once again. It will not be very cold, but chillier temperatures return for the second half of the week. High temperatures will drop 10 to 15 degrees between Wednesday and Thursday. Widespread showers will continue in the morning before finally breaking down in the afternoon and evening.

Friday will be one of the better days this week as mostly sunny skies return. Temperatures will be down, but not as much as on Thursday. The sunshine will help us break 60 degrees in the afternoon, making for a wonderful end to the week. Isolated showers will come back into the forecast on Saturday as a small group of showers passes by, but conditions will dry up again for Mother’s Day. Temperatures will be in the upper 60s on Sunday, so it is trending to be a good day for an outdoor brunch or lunch date to end the weekend. Here’s the 7-Day Forecast:
