Showers and Thunderstorms; Active Pattern Continues

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Widespread showers are moving through the region this morning. Much-needed rainfall is reaching our entire viewing area, though some spots will see heavier rain than others. The umbrellas and rain coats will be necessary accessories this morning and through the rest of the day. Thunderstorms are not expected this morning while the main line of showers passes through. By the early afternoon, showers will be to our east. However, more scattered showers and storms will form this afternoon.

A couple of storms in the southern coalfields could become strong, but will likely stay sub-severe. There is a modest amount of available energy popping up this afternoon, but skies staying mostly cloudy means that this energy will be limited. If a storm or two becomes strong this afternoon, gusty winds are possible. These storms will use up any available energy, meaning activity will weaken this evening. We will receive more rain, which is beneficial to the region. By the end of the day, we could see an additional quarter to a half of an inch on top of what we have received so far this morning. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:

Showers will linger Thursday morning before gradually breaking up in the afternoon. These showers will be lighter, but will bring some helpful rain into the region once again. While rain does slowly stop, temperatures will not recover tomorrow. The morning will start in the upper 40s and afternoon highs will only reach to the upper 50s. You’ll want a warm layer underneath your rain gear tomorrow. This cooldown will be brief as temperatures start to recover Friday afternoon after a chillier morning. Friday will remain mostly sunny and dry, making for a nice end to the week.

More scattered showers will pass through on Saturday as a small cluster moves through the Great Lakes and northeastern states. These showers will be on the lighter side and won’t be as beneficial as the rainfall we get today. By evening, these showers will have passes by. The overnight hours and Sunday morning will be calmer with partly sunny skies. Showers and storms will come back later in the afternoon and evening, which may dampen some Mother’s Day plans. This low-pressure system will move through the region overnight and through Monday, continuing the rainy pattern that we have needed since March. Conditions will get better later on Monday before staying dry on Tuesday. Here’s your 7-Day Forecast:
