OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) –Â We continue to track some showers and storms that are making their way through the region this evening.

This round is nothing like the first round that produced some very rough weather in parts of the region this morning. Tonight, the main weather threat in areas seeing rain is the possibility of flooding. We do have a Flood Watch in effect for McDowell, Raleigh, and Wyoming Counties until 2 a.m. Friday and for Mercer and Tazewell Counties until 4 a.m. Friday.

One saving grace when it comes to the location of the heavy rain is that it’s falling in a part of the area that has been very dry, reducing the flooding chances. The latest drought monitor came out today, and while there has been some improvement, most of the area remains in severe drought.

We also caught a break today with the cloud cover, which kept the sun from recharging the atmosphere. Instead of the two rounds of severe weather that we anticipated, we saw rain showers with only a few rumbles of thunder. In addition to the chance of rain, patchy fog is possible area-wide with so much moisture hanging around and temperatures cooling to the dew points. Despite the cloud cover, temperatures will fall to the lower 60s, a bit cooler than last night thanks to the influx of cool air behind the front that triggered the storms today.
