Tuesday’s floods have proven to be deadly

Upshur County, WV (WOAY) – We have tragic news to report from Lewis and Upshur County, where we can now confirm deadly flooding unfolded this week.

The state police have identified two victims in that flood as Judy A. Young, a 59-year-old from Upshur County, and James J. Harper, a 61-year-old from Upshur County.

They were found inside a vehicle that had been swept off the roadway due to rising floodwaters.

Governor Patrick Morrissey says 352 National Guardsmen have been deployed with 84 vehicles.

More than 270 tons of debris have been removed in the past twenty-four hours.

More than two and a half thousand workers with the Division of Highways have been deployed, and the Division of Natural Resources is checking on survivors and delivering supplies.

There are already 1,700 volunteers on the ground providing support.
