Showers and Storms Tonight; Active Weekend Ahead

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): This morning is another wonderful start, and temperatures will rise into the lower 80s yet again. We’ll be just a pinch cooler, so it won’t be record-tying or breaking like yesterday, but will be a nicer afternoon. However, this evening will paint a different picture. A group of showers and storms will start moving through the region, and a couple of storms may become strong. Storms have the potential to yield gusty winds and isolated hail due to the daytime heating we’ll receive.

A “Marginal” severe weather risk has been designated for our viewing area, which means we could see isolated severe storms. Damaging winds are the main concern, with gusts peaking at 60 miles per hour. Hail is an outside possibility while tornadic activity and flooding are not in play for tonight. Storms will weaken overnight thanks to the loss of daytime heating, but they will not dissipate until Friday morning. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest:

After the storms leave Friday morning, conditions get much better in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures get to the upper 70s and skies become mostly sunny. The nice weather will last through Saturday afternoon before the next round of showers and storms pops in. Storms and showers start up Saturday evening, and there is another marginal chance for severe weather Saturday evening. Again, damaging winds are the main concern. We are keeping an eye on this system, but it is likely to be similar to today’s storms and showers. Storms will weaken overnight, but rain will not dissipate. The rain will be steady through Sunday morning before gradually dissipating in the afternoon and evening hours.

As we head into the new week, we will dry up and start off cooler. The cold front will bring some relief from the well-above average temperatures, but drought will continue to develop across the region. We could see frost early Monday and Tuesday morning, but temperatures will recover by Tuesday afternoon. By Wednesday, we’ll be back to more seasonable temperatures across the region.
