Secretary of State Kris Warner reminds voters how to report election law violations as primary election approaches

Charleston, WV (WOAY) Secretary of State Kris Warner is reminding voters how to report possible election law violations ahead of the May primary election.

Warner says his office investigates alleged violations of the state’s election code, including things like voter intimidation, vote buying, and electioneering too close to polling places on election day.

Officials say some complaints, such as campaign sign placement or claims of misleading campaign statements, fall under other agencies or the court system.

If the secretary of state’s office has jurisdiction, investigators will review complaints and gather evidence.

Anyone who wants to report an alleged election code violation must fill out an official complaint form, have it notarized, and submit it to the Secretary of State’s Investigations Division.

Voters can also visit sos.wv.gov for polling locations and important election deadlines.
