School bus accident in Fayette County leaves two children with minor injuries

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Deputies in Fayette County investigate an accident involving a school bus this afternoon. Sheriff Mike Fridley released the following information regarding this incident.

Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and other first responders were dispatched to an accident on Deepwater Mountain Road (wv 61) this afternoon in the area of Beards Fork. Information recieved was that one vehicle was a school bus and the other was a van that left the scene. Deputies located the van a few miles away near Wriston.

The bus was carrying 14 school children. Two of which were transported to Montgomery General Hospital to recieve treatment for minor injuries. The other 12 were transported to their destinations by another bus dispatched by the Fayette County Board of Education.

The driver of the van Sebastian Cottrell, 24 of Cannelton, was evaluated by a Sheriff’s Department Drug Recognition Expert on scene to verify that he was not impaired. He was however cited for Driving While License Suspended, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, No Insurance and Driving Left of Center.
