Safety tips for Beekeepers when working in the summer heat

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY)- The weather is getting hotter but that doesn’t stop the bees from making some sweet old honey. With that, we have some tips to help out our local beekeepers ‘bee’ safe when working on your hives.

While the best time of day to tend to the hives is around midday, that’s when the summer heat and humidity will hit you the most.

First tip is dress for the weather. So while you have to wear protective clothing for the actual work, it’s important to make sure you’re wearing light/breathable clothing underneath your bee suit to help stay cool.

Next and most importantly, is to make sure to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Also be sure to monitor your health overall, if you aren’t feeling good go find somewhere cool to rest.

Finally don’t work alone, have a helper, an extra set of hands can help ease the strain on you with the workload. Overall just remember to ‘bee’ careful!
