Ray Lee Named South Cardinals Head Coach

WOAY – Greenbrier East’s Ray Lee has officially been named the South Cardinals head coach for the 2020 North-South Football Classic.

Amid the uncertainty regarding the future of sporting events because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the North-South Football Classic organizers saying they have plans to move forward with the 2020 game. It is scheduled for a noon kickoff Saturday, June 13th at South Charleston High School.

Lee has been the Spartans’ head coach since 2012, and has led the school to three Class AAA playoff appearances in the last five years, including a first-round home game in 2019.

It’s the third straight year an area head coach has been selected to lead the South Cardinals. John Mustain – formerly of James Monroe – led the team in the 2018 classic, while David Moneypenny (formerly of Fayetteville, now at Oak Hill), was the head coach in 2019.

North Marion’s Daran Hays will lead the North Bears, who have won the last four games in the series.
