Raleigh County, WV (WOAY) – A Raleigh County woman has pleaded guilty to charges connected to a crash that took the life of a Boone County woman earlier this year.
Destany Lester pleaded guilty to one count of driving impaired, causing death, and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
Lester was the driver of a car involved in a head-on collision on the Coalfields Expressway in Sophia on April 20. The driver of the other car, 24-year-old Baylea Bower of Bloomingrose, died in the accident.
At the time, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office said Lester was moving at a high rate of speed and was under the influence.
Lester pleaded guilty to the charges. In exchange, the prosecutor will stand silent during sentencing.
She faces 3 to 15 years in prison, at the sole discretion of the court.
