Kanawha County, WV (WOAY) – Governor Patrick Morrisey approved West Virginia’s state budget last night, making several line-item vetoes but leaving the bill largely intact.
The budget includes a three percent pay raise for teachers and other state employees.
The Governor’s line-item vetoes were largely minor reductions to individual programs.
Members of the Senate and House of Delegates said they passed the bill early enough to allow the legislature to override any potential vetoes, although there is no word on whether or not lawmakers will try to override any specific vetoes.
The budget plans for a 5% income tax cut.
The House of Delegates passed a bill this afternoon approving the 5% tax cut, sending the bill to the state senate for final approval before going to the Governor’s desk.
