Beckley, WV (WOAY) – Woodrow Wilson High School’s student-led Wetlands Project is moving forward with additional support.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the Raleigh County Board of Education approved an agreement with the West Virginia Division of Highways and the Piney Creek Watershed Association, allowing the board to take on the administrative role of managing a $117,500 grant for the project.
The board will also put the project out to bid, approve a contractor, and pay invoices.
Woodrow’s Wetland Project includes plans for two 80-foot walking ramps connected by a 32 by 32 square-foot outdoor classroom, a wheelchair-accessible walking pavilion, and additional flora and fauna.
The project aims to create opportunities for students to appreciate and study native wildlife.
