Rainy Weather Continues; Sunny Weather Returns Later

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): The morning commute will feature light rain and dense fog across the region. If you are driving through a patch of dense fog, make sure to drive slowly and utilize your low beams. The fog will lift later in the morning, but the rain will be persistent through the day. Thanks to the stationary front to our east and more showers passing through the southern states, rainfall will last throughout the day. Showers will be persistent and widespread, while thunderstorms will be isolated. There is potential for heavy rain within these showers and storms, especially later in the day. This potential will lead to water issues across the viewing area.

Flooding is the main concern today. Slides are also possible through the region, especially in vulnerable areas. Flash Flooding Guidance suggests that most of the region would need around an inch and a half of rain within an hour for flash flooding to commence. However, the southeastern quarter of the region only needs around an inch within an hour, which is very possible in some of these storms. Stay aware throughout the day and have multiple ways to receive alerts just in case your area is affected. This flooding risk lasts through Wednesday as more showers and storms move through. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest details:

As mentioned, showers and storms continue on Wednesday. The stationary front will stick around through most of the day, only being pushed away by high pressure early Thursday morning. Despite the push from high pressure late tomorrow, rain will linger Thursday morning and afternoon before dissipating that evening. This will be the last of the week-long rainy streak, giving way to drier conditions. This rainy streak has been very beneficial for our region, but has already caused flooding issues and could cause more. Even with those issues, we will fall short of the 11 inches of rain needed to squash the drought. Still, we should see some improvement on the drought monitor this Thursday.

Friday will be a beautiful day! High pressure lingers in the region, stabilizing the atmosphere and giving us mostly sunny skies to end the week. That high pressure will slink away overnight, but the sunny conditions will not exactly vanish. Saturday does bring a chance of a few isolated storms, but the chance is low, and skies will remain partly cloudy in areas not affected by storms. The dry and sunny conditions return on Sunday, beginning a dry streak across the region. June starts next week, and the new month will be drier than average, which is not the news we want to hear.
