Rainy days ahead

It is a cloudy and cool day once again around the region, with temperatures around 20 degrees below the normal.

The difference between today and yesterday is that we’ve tossed in showers and, in some areas, thunder as well. The strongest rain is to our northeast this afternoon, but more isolated storms are possible later tonight and tomorrow as another weak disturbance in the middle levels of the atmosphere makes its way through the region, part of the continuing active pattern.

The active weather lasts through the rest of the week as another surface low pushes through the region on Friday.

Overall rain totals will be fairly high over the next few days. Luckily, the days before this have been dry and the vegetation has greened up, absorbing the moisture that falls and keeping flooding concerns to a minimum, with the only concerns involving water ponding on the roads and standing water in low lying spots.

By early next week, the pattern will shift, and warm weather lovers will be rewarded for their patience. Temperatures will warm up to above normal levels for the first time in a while. Highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s.
