Rain is on the way

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was a mostly cloudy, warm, and breezy afternoon around the region today. Temperatures wound up in the lower to middle 70s ahead of a front that will come into the region tonight and tomorrow. Winds are out of the southwest and gusting up to 25 mph.

Showers are pushing into the state from Kentucky and Ohio this evening and will affect our late-night and morning plans. With the southerly flow, temperatures will be mild, generally dropping into the mid-50s.

Tomorrow, umbrellas and rain jackets will be a necessity as showers and storms will roll through the area with the front.
Some of the showers could be heavy at times, with much-needed rainfall helping to ease the drought a bit. The heaviest band of rain will occur in the morning hours, and after a break in the rain, some of the afternoon storms could be on the strong side. The thinking for now is that the strongest storms will pass south of the region, but some of the southern and southwestern areas could see a strong storm or two as well. Highs tomorrow will wind up in the middle to upper 60s but will fall during the later afternoon hours as the cool air behind the front invades the region. Lows tomorrow night will be in the mid to upper 40s.
Thursday will also feature a good chance for rain and much cooler temperatures, as highs will be in the upper 50s. The rain won’t last all day. It should end by the evening, skies will clear, and temperatures will drop into the mid to upper 30s. The cooldown is only a temporary one, however, as temperatures will be back in the mid-60s by Friday afternoon.
Mother’s Day weekend will also see chances for rain as more active weather is in the forecast. Another front will bring more chances for showers and storms, with the stormy weather mainly on the holiday. Highs will be in the 60s and 70s.
Behind the weekend front, we’ll see a slight cooldown, as the overall jet stream pattern favors slightly cooler than normal temperatures in all areas in the east outside of Florida.
