There are plenty of clouds around the region this afternoon, but despite the lack of sunshine, temperatures are relatively mild around the region. Most areas wound up in the mid to upper 50s. A warm front overspreading the region is the reason for the warmer-than-normal temperatures, but it is also sending some showers towards the area.
The showers will be here tonight and tomorrow as the lower level of the atmosphere becomes moist enough to allow the rain to make it to the ground. Under the influence of the warm front, lows tonight will be in the mid to upper 40s.
Tomorrow, despite the clouds and showers, highs will be as warm as they’ll get during the extended forecast, generally in the lower 60s. The chance for rain will last through the day and into the early hours of Saturday morning before tapering off.
Rain gear and some extra time to get to our driving destinations – whether it’s the Fabulous Football Friday games or anything else. With the passage of the cool front, there will be a few rumbles of thunder.
No severe weather is expected, but some gusty winds and heavy rain could accompany the storms. Behind the cool front, temperatures during the first half of the weekend will drop by a few degrees. The second half of the weekend features mostly sunny skies and even cooler temperatures than Saturday.
For Thanksgiving Week, the weather will start nice, with highs near 60 degrees again on Monday. And plenty of sunshine. As the week goes on, another storm will push into the area from the west, and rain chances will be back in the forecast beginning on Tuesday.
The question regarding the forecast will be the exit timing of this low. There are large differences between the European and American atmospheric models. The European model has the system moving out on Wednesday night, with only a few snow showers in the higher elevations on Thursday morning before it dries out completely.
The American GFS has rain and snow throughout the state (mostly rain in our area) through Thursday. One thing that’s for sure is that the air will turn much cooler after the cold front swings through. We’ll be tracking the progress of the low and the timing of the showers for you.
One thing is for sure: the precipitation that falls will help to further alleviate the drought. There has been some progress in that regard in the past few weeks. Many areas have seen the drought eliminated, and others have reduced the severity of the drought by multiple categories.
