WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): High pressure will bring four more dry and pleasant days to West Virginia.
Chief Meteorologist Chad Merrill has the latest:
A developing omega block pattern at the end of the week will then trigger scattered rain with just a very low risk for thunder. Typically when a low pressure cuts off from the jet stream (as will be the case in the Ohio Valley later this week), the weather starts out dry in the morning and then scattered showers develop during the afternoon but the lightning risk remains low. Temperatures will range from the 70s to near 80 degrees this week with morning temperatures in the 50s to low 60s.
We will remain in a moderate drought through the end of the week.
Tropical Storm Ernesto will develop in the Atlantic this week, perhaps reaching hurricane strength. The upper flow pattern will likely direct it away from the East Coast. However, if it makes an approach closer than Bermuda and reaches Category 3 or higher strength, it will likely considerably weaken the Eastern trough and limit our rain chances even more thanks to its subsidence or sinking air zone being over our area. There is no upside risk at this time for our region to see any rain or wind from the storm.
