PSC orders general investigation of Waste Management

Charleston, WV (WOAY)- The Public Service Commission of West Virginia (PSC) has launched an investigation into Waste Management (WM) of West Virginia’s operations.

Delegate Andy Shamblin, R-Kanawha, sparked the inquiry after filing a complaint with the PSC.

Shamblin reports receiving numerous customer complaints about the company’s garbage pickup in the Cross Lanes area of Kanawha County.

The Commission also has received complaints from WM customers regarding missed pickup days, incomplete pickups, and little to no notification of changes in the service schedule.

Shamblin said these customers do not have an alternative service.

Shamblin questioned whether ordering Waste Management to provide billing credits for missed pickups would be appropriate.

Staff was ordered to investigate and file its report within 30 days of this order.

The Commission also directed staff to investigate any problems in any area where WM offers garbage service.

That second report is to be filed within 60 days of the order.

More information on this case can be found at www.psc.state.wv.us  under “Case Information.”

The case number is 25-0293-MC-GI.
