Wyoming County, WV (WOAY) – Several organizations came together today to give people information about potential cuts to programs at the federal level.
Facing Hunger Foodbank, the American Friends Service Committee, the West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition, and the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy held a meeting in Oceana at the UMWA District 17 local 7604 office and online to help explain some of the cuts that may be coming out of Washington.
The cuts have been proposed to Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP as well as money for food banks.
As miners are laid off, it stresses food banks, and proposed cuts cause even more stress.
Cyndi Kirkhart, CEO of Facing Hunger Foodbank, says they already can’t get enough water in the area fast enough with the growing water crisis in Wyoming County.
The potential cuts could potentially hurt their ability to do so even more.
However, she says there is one thing people can do ahead of any vote in Washington.
