Kanawha County, WV (WOAY) – At a press conference today in Charleston, Governor Patrick Morrisey unveiled his proposed changes to West Virginia’s child welfare system.
Governor Morrisey proposed an expansion of Star Academies, which helps keep at-risk middle school students engaged.
Morrisey said he wants to initiate truancy diversion programs, with the goal of keeping kids in school through intervention and problem-solving truancy courts.
The governor is also pushing for more coordination with faith-based organizations.
