North Carolina Experiences First Snow; The End of a Nearly 3 Year Drought

CHARLOTTE, NC: While Southern West Virginia has already had its fair share of snow this season, areas of North Carolina just hours away have not experienced snow for almost 3 years. That was, until yesterday when Charlotte and other areas in central North Carolina finally got their first dosage of winter weather.

Most affected areas, including Charlotte, had trace amounts of snow. This means Charlotte is still in a measurable snow drought, but has finally gotten something on the ground for the first time since January 29th, 2022.

Areas in higher elevations, especially in the Piedmont Triad, experienced anywhere from 0.5 to more than 2 inches. The reason these areas finally got their first snow was due to a shift in the rain/snow line in that area, leading to cooler temperatures and the snow that came with it.
