Nice weather continues, but some rain is needed

It is a pleasant day again around the area and temperatures are a few degrees warmer than they were yesterday at this time.
That continues the trend that has been in place for the last day or two. The one thing that hasn’t changed at all is the humidity; it’s been quite dry during the afternoons the last couple of days.
The good news (and the reason that we’re not tracking high fire danger) is that the humidity levels go up enough during the nighttime hours to keep the fuels from getting too dry. With the dry air in place, however, lows and highs are showing quite a bit of spread and that will be the case tonight, as we drop into the middle to upper 40s.
Tomorrow, we’ll see the slight warmup continue as highs will push the 80-degree mark in all areas and will get above it in the usual warmer places. Skies will continue to be mostly sunny, and the dry weather will continue with high pressure in control. We will be tracking a few showers that might pop up to our southeast, but they shouldn’t affect us too much, even travelers that are headed in that direction shouldn’t run into too much rain.
The rest of the extended forecast will see the same weather trends continue. Almost everyone outside of the higher elevations will see highs in the 80s by Sunday under mostly sunny skies. It will continue to be dry as well. While the dry weather that we’re seeing is great for the outdoor plans, it does come with some issues. The latest drought monitor shows that part of Pocahontas County is in severe drought along with a small slice of Nicholas County. Other northern areas are in moderate drought and almost everyone else is at least abnormally dry.
There will be some small chances for rain beginning on Tuesday of next week and lasting through the rest of the extended forecast. This will mainly be in the southern and eastern areas as a non-tropical low-pressure center will form off the Virginia coast and will stall, throwing moisture in our direction.
