New River Humane Society in need of donations

FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY) – After receiving a budget cut the New River Humane Society is asking the community for help.

The Fayette County Commission was able to find funding for the 2020-2021 payroll budget for Fayette County Animal Control Center. However, they still need $44,000 to keep the current staffing model in place. Board President Kathy Gerencer says if they are unable to raise these funds, they will be forced to lay off employees and make necessary changes in caring for the lost, abandoned, abused, and neglected animals.

“We can’t be at capacity like we would be had a full staff so our ability to take in and care for the dogs and cats need our help it will get delayed until we can find homes for the animals that are at the facility,” said Gerencer.

Financial donations are accepted through the non-profit New River Humane Society and used for spay, food, vaccines and other necessities.
