Mount Hope Mayor says parks will remain open

MOUNT HOPE, WV (WOAY) – All over Southern West Virginia, Mayors and other officials fed up with residents who ignore social distancing guideline have been shutting down parks.

Mount Hope Mayor Michael Kessinger says he doesn’t see shutting down parks and trails necessary. Kessinger encourages people to get outside.

“We haven’t thought about shutting the parks down. As far as I know they’re actually recommending people to be outside and social distancing still plays. But we want to encourage people to get outside and enjoys what Southern West Virginia has to offer,” said Mount Hope Mayor Michael Kessinger.

Kessinger says for those who do plan on going outside, the biggest thing to remember is to be intelligent, use social distancing, and to keep clean.
