Mostly Dry Week Ahead; Watching a System as We Head Into Next Weekend

We have had a pretty nice Saturday across Southern West Virgnia, a little cooler today than on Friday, but still mild nonetheless. We do have a small chance of rain showers passing through some of our area Monday and Tuesday both, but the chances of a complete washout is very low as most people will stay dry.

Taking a look at the drought monitor after the rain we had the last 2 weeks, all of our area has seen some improvement, most notably across Pocahontas and Northern Greenbrier Counties as they are down to Moderate Drought. A Severe Drought still encompasses most of our area  from Nicholas down to Tazewell Counties. Looking at the European rainfall over the next 7 days, a lot of the rain we get appears to be in the area where we do have the worst drought. Although with most people hanging around a quarter of an inch and most staying under a half an inch of rainfall, not much impact to the drought should happen.

As we take a quick look ahead to Saturday, we can see a large storm system off to our west, so as Saturday looks to stay dry as of now, we will need to watch the speed and track of that system to see if it will bring us any impacts in terms of rain on Sunday. If it continues to move off to the east slowly, then we should stay dry throughout next weekend.

Looking at that full 7 day forecast, a 20% chance of rain Monday and 30% chance of rain Tuesday will lead to a dry mid to late week. Temperatures will also rise to near 80 Thursday and Friday as plentiful sunshine is likely. While at the current moment, we remain dry Saturday; we still need to watch the system off to our west for potential impacts soon after.
