Mercer County, Stream blockages can be reported to WV Conservation Agency

Mercer County, WV (WOAY) – The Mercer County Office of Emergency Management is asking residents to report stream blockages around the county to the WV Conservation Agency.

According to the WV Conservation Agency’s Facebook page, residents of 13 southern West Virginia counties currently under a disaster declaration following recent flooding may contact their local conservation district to report debris blockages in streams.

Gov. Patrick Morrisey issued the state of emergency for: Boone, Cabell, Greenbrier, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Mercer, McDowell, Mingo, Raleigh, Summers, Wayne and Wyoming counties. Residents may be eligible for Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Program assistance.

WVCA technicians have been deployed to all 13 counties to assess the extent of flood-related debris blockages and damage and help provide assistance to affected citizens.

Mercer, McDowell, Raleigh, Summers and Wyoming counties fall within the Southern Conservation District, which can be reached at: (304) 253-0261 or scd@wvca.us.
