Welch, WV (WOAY) – McDowell County Schools announces changes for their shelters and distribution centers.
According to a post on the McDowell County Schools Facebook page, school facilities will no longer serve as shelters or distribution centers as of today March 6, 2025.
Students will return to the classroom on Monday, March 10, 2025. All McDowell County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay. This will allow bus drivers additional daylight as they transport students back to school for the first day.
MCDS has worked with the DOH to change routes according to current conditions. Bus drivers ran practice runs today to make a final plan for time adjustments, identify safe turn around spots, and etc.
McDowell Schools will re-evaluate bus routes at the end of March and make necessary updates at that time. Any changes to the routes will be posted on the MCDS Facebook page.
