May’s Chilly Start; Isolated Showers Possible

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): As we start the month of May, temperatures are well below average. Some areas will observe below-freezing temperatures, causing some patchy frost across the region. As a result, a Frost Advisory has been issued for Fayette, Greenbrier, Monroe, Nicholas, southeastern Pocahontas, Raleigh, and Summers counties until 9 AM this morning. A Freeze Warning has also been issued for northwestern Pocahontas County until 9 AM. Any sensitive vegetation should be protected and you’ll want your layers throughout the day.

A few showers are possible this afternoon and evening, but rain will be much lighter than previous showers and storms this week. An umbrella or light jacket will be plenty sufficient for keeping dry. The trend of cool weather and showers will continue into the weekend as a low-pressure system passes to our south. While we will not get the brunt of that system, a few isolated showers may creep up north into our area tomorrow afternoon or evening. This is that early spring weather that we missed out on from March and April. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:

Sunday will start on a chilly note, likely prompting Frost Advisories and Freeze Warnings in our region once again. However, the sun will be out through the day, leading to slightly warmer temperatures in the afternoon. It won’t reach the 70s, but it will feel nicer as we approach the upper 50s. This is the best day to get out and enjoy if you do not want to get wet thanks to high pressure briefly moving through the southern states. After Sunday, rain chances stay in the forecast for most of next week.

Monday and Tuesday show chances for scattered showers, though chances are trending slightly down. Temperatures will recover by Monday afternoon, finally staying seasonable for a couple of days. Clusters of showers and weaker storms are possible ahead of the cold front slowly approaching from the Midwest. This front will finally approach the region on Wednesday, bringing widespread showers and storms back in the forecast, It will reach around 70 degrees on Wednesday before temperatures fall once again on Thursday. Right now, the front is trending towards a morning start, and with previous showers passing through, storm strength may be limited. Here’s a look at the 7-Day Forecast:
