BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The Mac’s Toy Fund will be operating differently this holiday season due to the pandemic.
The Mac’s toy fund provides thousands of toys to children each year in Raleigh County. Typically a distribution is held at the Raleigh County Convention Center, but it’s been canceled due to COVID-19.
According to the president of Mac’s Toy Fund Dawn Dayton, the Toy Fund will instead be offering grants to charitable organizations that give out toys and clothes to children.
“It wouldn’t be possible to do the necessary social distancing out there with such a large crowd. So we tried to come up with a way that we could still provide for the needy kids, because we’re sure there’s going to be more this year than there usually are,” Dayton said.
Mac’s Toy Fund will be accepting applications for grants from charitable organizations until September 15, 2020.
This year is also the 90th anniversary of the Mac’s Toy Fund.
