Light Rain Today; Warmer Streak Continues

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): As we begin a new week, the morning starts with a mild feel and mostly clear skies. However, there are a few showers moving in from Kentucky and Ohio that will affect us after the morning commute and through the afternoon. This activity and the cloud cover associated with it will keep us in the mid-70s. Showers dissipate in the evening and skies will clear up tonight. As long as you have an umbrella for the scattered showers popping in, you should be well prepared.

While there will be a chance for an isolated shower or two tomorrow, conditions will likely stay dry. Temperatures will move up as well, making for an even warmer afternoon. Skies will remain mostly sunny outside of the possibility for a quick and light isolated shower. Once again, any activity that ends up making it to our viewing area will dissipate in the evening and stay away overnight. The warm start will stick around for most of this week. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:

Wednesday will be the warmest day of the week, and several daily high temperature records will be in jeopardy. This means that we may see the highest temperature recorded on April 15th during any year. The forecasted high of 84 degrees would break several records on the 15th, including Beckley’s record. Make sure you stay cool and hydrated not just on Wednesday, but over the entire week.

Another chance of rain moves through Thursday night and early Friday morning as another round of scattered and light showers moves in through the Midwest. These showers are trending similarly to today and tomorrow’s chances and will not affect our temperatures much. We will remain in the lower 80s on Friday, ending our work week with the same warm streak as when it started.

This weekend will start with a warm and mostly cloudy day on Saturday, which is the precursor to our first bout of widespread rain in a while. A cold front will punch through the region early on Sunday, bringing widespread rain and a couple of thunderstorms as well. While this won’t cure many of our woes, it will help keep drought from intensifying more for the next couple of days. This rain will last throughout the day before drying up overnight.  Temperatures will also drop by about 10 degrees between Saturday and Sunday afternoon, but it won’t be chilly like previous fronts.

As we head into the next week, temperatures will remain above average for this time of the year. While the beginning of next week will be modest, there will be an increase in temperatures similar to this week. This April is looking to be one of the warmer ones in recent history, so we may be getting a taste of summer once again next week.
