WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): The morning starts cold once again with wind chills in the teens and single digits. Make sure to have your layers for the morning commute, but also be able to shed one or two off in the afternoon. Temperatures recover to above 40 degrees in the afternoon before falling into the 30s overnight. A quick line of showers will move through overnight, bringing rain and a wintery mix into the region with snow staying in the highest elevations. After this leaves, we are staying clear until the major weekend storm comes through. We have more details here:
This weekend will be nothing short of significant. We are confident this storm will start Saturday afternoon and finally make its leave by Monday morning. This will be a long duration storm, steadily dropping snow through the weekend. The type of weather the area will get is also starting to lock in, with fluffy, dry snow being most likely. There is an outside chance of ice in the southern coalfields, especially Sunday, but this storm is trending to drop mostly snow for us. However, the track of the storm and the total amounts are still working themselves out. The models will likely wobble north and south for another day or so before settling in. Amounts are also varying from 5 to 20+ inches, so any snowfall forecasts will have to wait a little longer. Here’s a look at our current 4 T’s Confidence:

While the forecast is shaping up, it is important to be prepared for anything. You should have ample supplies of food, water, first aid, batteries, and other essentials. Batteries should be used for flashlights and radios. Make sure to get extra medication if needed. For families, get extra baby and pet supplies if applicable to your household. For your homes, make sure to run faucets at a trickle this weekend due to the frigid temperatures. Power outages are not as big of a treat as previous storms, but having layers and batteries will be important in case ice or snow piles up heavily. It is better to be prepared than to be caught in an outage without ample supplies.
Staying aware and prepared is key to put yourself in the position to deal with the impactful winter storm. To quickly summarize, snow will be falling from Saturday afternoon through Monday morning. Amounts are not exactly figured out, but heavy snow is very possible with this system. The track of the storm is also in debate, which will affect our amounts as well. Any northern trend will bring more snow and ice into the equation while a southern trend will bring less snow. Our team is keeping up diligently with each model run to compare trends and update our communities as information comes. Please stay tuned with us as the forecast develops.
