BEAVER, WV (WOAY) – The Legacy Church in Beaver held their third year anniversary.
The Legacy Church was founded three years ago with the goal of being as inclusive as possible for the entire community. Church member Cheryl Kincaid says they consider themselves a less-traditional church, and instead focus on being a supportive environment for everyone.
“Three years ago we decided to start this new journey and open up a church to reach the hurting and the lost, or anyone who maybe wasn’t comfortable going to a traditional type of church.”
To help celebrate, they set up an outdoor service, a community lunch and games for all ages. The church members say that everyone is welcome at their congregation.
“We just wanted to make a church where everyone felt welcome, whether they’ve been in church for 20 years, or maybe they’ve never set foot in a church.”
They’ve been holding outdoor services for sometime during the pandemic. And the church’s pastor Kelly Bowman gave another passionate service during the celebration. He says these past three years have flown by.
“It’s weird. Part of it feels like I can’t believe it’s been three years, and then there’s another part that feels like I can’t remember life before.”
The church has done many great things for the community over the years, including helping spawn the Legacy Center, a group of different organizations that come together to help those in need. They support the homeless, provide book rentals and even have a food pantry.
“We want to be a part of the community. It’s not about one person, it’s not about one church, this is about a community. Legacy’s desire is to just love on people that are hurting.”
The Legacy Church was founded on August 13, 2017. They took extra care during this anniversary to provide a welcoming and safe environment for everyone, and dozens of churchgoers showed up for the outdoor service.
