July 4th may be over, but people are still letting off fireworks

Beckley, WV (WOAY) – We recently celebrated the birth of American independence.

July 4th may be over, but the fireworks are not.

People are still letting off the sparklers at all hours of the day and night.

Are there any Raleigh County city ordinances on the books that can enforce this to stop?

“The laws vary from location to location. Each municipality will have its ordinances,” said Beckley Fire Department Station 1 Captain Clifton Laws. “Here in the city of Beckley, our ordinances state that you are only allowed to set off fireworks on Labor Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and New Year’s Eve.”

According to the captain, the best thing one can do is be a good neighbor, have a good relationship with your neighbor, so you can talk to them.

‘But if you’re not getting satisfaction, if you are disturbed, look into it,” Laws said. “You can find the West Virginia code online. Check with your local municipality and see if your neighbors are outside their legal right to express their joy of being born in the nation that’s free and brave.”
