FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY) – It’s a summer of love at Love Hope Center for the Arts, with all the upcoming exhibits, including Artists of the New.
“There are several reasons to come visit Love, Hope. One is simply to take in the space. This is a historic building; it was a church for many years and we have these gorgeous stained glass windows that are really the most prominent feature, I feel, of the space,” said coordinator Kate Kistler. “And they add this wonderful light and color to everything inside the building.”
On Saturday, July 13 at 7 p.m. Love Hope hosts award-winning bluegrass musicians Becky Buller with Ned Luberecki.
“They like to say that they toe this line between traditional and progressive bluegrass,” Kistler said. “They occupy this really cool space.”
Take a walk through the imaginative and impressive art showcased at Love Hope.
“With Base Camp, and then we feature Seth Pitt in our small gallery, he’s an artist from Thomas, West Virginia. But then in our gift shop, we have dozens of artists represented, and there are so many cool finds in there,” said Kistler.
Love Hope also offers classes at their basement studios occupied by two artists.
“Carl Thompson teaches stained glass classes. In addition, a book-making class later this month,” Kistler said. “We’re looking at getting some figure-drawing classes.”
She’s been working at Love Hope for about a month now, and Kate says she sees how much community there is and how many volunteers are involved.
“I’m from here. This is something I already know, but to see it through the lens of the art scene I think is new and special, and there is lots of power and excitement there,” said Kistler. “And I’m really excited to keep exploring that.”
Their Artists of the New Festival call for art submissions are due by July 20.
“A block party feel outside with live music and food trucks and vendors,” Kistler said. “It’s a great fundraiser, a great community-building event and a really nice way to all come together and have a day of fun, and art and music.”
Folks from Fayette, Raleigh and Somerset County can submit their pieces to be juried and submitted for the show.
“Come to Love, Hope, Arts,” said Kistler. “Check it out; spread the love.”
