Wildfire Preparedness Day

West Virginia (WOAY) – The first Saturday of May is wildfire prepardness day. A local expert shared some tips on how to protect nature and yourself when it comes to burning. With West Virginia currently being in the spring fire season, burning is only allowed from 5pm to 7am through May 31st.

Some good tips to keep in mind are to remove items around your home that can fuel a wildfire. Keep vegetation around your home to a minimum. Store flamable items away from your home. Have an outdoor water source that can reach any area of your home, and make sure to leave at least a 10-foot ring around your home where there is no flammable material to ensure safety to you and others.
