How an Oak Hill small business (Mandabees) is faring through the wicked weather

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – The weather outside is frightful, Mother Nature’s new winter storm is packing a punch.

That’s leaving many town offices and businesses across our viewing area out for a snow day.

I found out how Mandabees in Oak Hill has been impacted.

“We deliver through DoorDash, and try to encourage that a lot during days when it’s slower,” said Manager Frenchie Brown. “Then people don’t have to go out on the roads as much as they would if they were just coming to dine in. We also offer pickup orders for people who are already out at work. That way, if you’re close by, you’re not going any further.”

According to Brown, on days like this — if they are not getting as much foot traffic in the restaurant, they ensure staff is taken care of and those who live far away are not driving in.

“We get people who are closer to town. If it’s going to be slow, nobody’s driving like half an hour, an hour,” the manager said. “This week in particular, we have a lot of catering orders with Valentine’s Day coming up so we can start doing all of our checklists for that, ordering everything that we need to get ready.”

Even if they only get one or two customers, Brown says it’s a good opportunity to connect with those customers.

“Everybody who comes in we’re trying to make friends with and learn something about because it is a community more than a restaurant,” she said.

If you’re local and can safely stop in Brown recommends trying a Mandabees burger or their other best sellers.

“Those are our sliders with American cheese, sauteed onions, and a homemade sauce. Our Oak Hill chicken is a fan favorite,” she said. “We do our own barbecue sauce chicken and it’s amazing. Then we just got classics like our club sandwich, our pepperoni rolls.”

Or found yourself snowed in? Message Mandabees on Facebook or Instagram about their popular (chocolate-covered strawberries in treat boxes) for Valentine’s Day.

The manager said they are super grateful to be in Oak Hill.

“To have a community that continues to support us on slow days like this,” said Brown.
“We want everybody to stay safe and not come out unless they have to. But if you’re out, (Mandabees) is a good place to go.”
