Heat Continues; Pattern Change this Weekend

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Conditions remain foggy and warm through the morning commute. Fog will dissipate around 10 AM, but a persistent haze will remain through the day. Temperatures will reach close 90 degrees while heat indices likely remain in the lower 90s. Skies will remain mostly sunny and hazy through the day, furthering the uncomfortable feel outside. If you are sensitive to the heat, staying inside is the best way to beat the heat. For those heading outside for an extended period, plenty of water, sun protection, and shade are needed. Make sure to stay cool and listen to your body in case the heat starts to affect you. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest details:

Friday will remain hazy and hot through the afternoon, but a pattern change is coming. Starting in the evening, isolated showers and storms will develop. These should remain weaker, but a couple of downpours are possible. This isolated activity will last through the night before becoming widespread Saturday. As the frontal system comes closer to the region, rainfall and storm strength will increase. The main concern for this weekend will be flooding issues caused by heavy rain, but damaging winds are also in play. Hail and tornadic activity are less likely, but I am not ruling either out completely.

Stormy conditions will remain throughout the day on Saturday and into most of Sunday before the front passes by. Storms should stay weaker on Sunday, but heavy rain and a couple of stronger storms are possible. Activity will continue through Sunday afternoon before dissipating slowly in the evening and overnight hours. Remember to stay weather aware and to not drive or wade into flood waters if you encounter them.

The weekend ends with a whimper, leading into a better Monday morning. This lull in activity will be nice, but will only last until Monday night. The next frontal system will move into the region Tuesday, bringing another round of widespread showers and storms. Strength and timing are not a certainty as of now, but some early week action is likely in store. Showers and storms linger on Wednesday before leaving the region later in the week. Make sure to get out and enjoy the little break we will have Monday morning before more rain moves in. Here’s the 7-Day Forecast:
