BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The Heart of God Ministries held their yearly backpack distribution.
The distribution is a way for the church to give back to the community. With school starting back up, many families may struggle trying to get new supplies for their kids. According to the church’s pastor Tyler Coleman, they strive to form a greater connection with the community.
“We’ve done it every year for the last 13 years. As a church, as a ministry, we operate under the mantra that the church is the community and the community is the church. And this is one of those events that really allows us to get face-to-face with people here with the local community, and just them that we’re here for them,” Coleman said.
The church gave out hundreds of backpacks and boxes of food during the distribution.
