Greenbrier County man’s death ruled as a homicide

Greenbrier County, WV (WOAY)- The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office is ruling the death of a Crichton man who had been missing since November as a homicide.

According to an official press release from the Sheriff’s office, on Saturday, May 3, after receiving an anonymous tip, Sergeant S. Murphy and Trooper H. Ware of the West Virginia State Police responded to a wooded rough terrain area of Nicholas County.

The anonymous tip reported that the body of a missing person from Greenbrier County was possibly there.

Upon investigation of the area, authorities discovered human remains and secured the crime scene.

The West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team, the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Team, and lead investigators responded and processed the scene.

The body was transported to the medical examiner’s office for identification and cause of death.

Examiners identified the body as Audie Carl Sloan (AJ) and ruled his death a homicide.

Sloan’s family reported him missing on November 26, 2024.

Greenbrier County Sheriffs and West Virginia State Police are leading this open investigation.
