Greenbrier County, WV (WOAY)- A significant investment in education and infrastructure is coming to Greenbrier County.
The Greenbrier County Board of Education will break ground on a long-awaited renovation project at Frankford Elementary School on Thursday, May 29, at 10:30 a.m.
The $7.3 million project is possible thanks to a $6.7 million award from the West Virginia School Building Authority’s need-based funding program and an additional $607,000 from Greenbrier County Schools.
The planned updates address issues identified in the county’s 10-year comprehensive educational facilities plan.
Project highlights include a new elevator and administrative offices, upgrades to the school’s drop-off and bus loop, demolition of outdated portable classrooms, electrical and sanitation upgrades, and a full-building sprinkler system.
Frankford is one of 19 schools across West Virginia receiving part of over $111 million in needs-based funding.
The funding is part of a statewide effort to improve public school facilities and support growing communities.
Construction is expected to begin following the groundbreaking ceremony.
