Governor Patrick Morrisey announces $11.1 Million released to West Virginia food banks

Charleston, WV (WOAY)-  Governor Patrick Morrisey announces additional funds to food banks to prepare for increased demand due to the federal government shutdown.

The Governor reports the release of another $2.5 million, bringing the total to $11.1 million.

Morrisey has authorized up to $14.1 million to be released as West Virginians go without their SNAP benefits.

Should the government shutdown continue, he has said he will not hesitate to call in the legislature to get additional funding.

Morrisey has also directed the West Virginia National Guard to continue supporting food banks, food pantries, and state agencies with logistics and distribution efforts to ensure vital assistance continues despite disruptions.

Governor Morrisey is encouraging residents and businesses to donate directly to Facing Hunger and Mountaineer Food Bank.
Residents can also call 211 for local assistance.
